What to expect when placing an order from Canada.
All orders shipping from the USA to Canada may require payment of GST, which is typically 5% of the total purchase. Orders placed by individuals, as opposed to business, may also require payment of PST. For such cases, the PST and GST combine for an HST charge.
If you are a Canada based business placing an order you may expect to pay 5% GST as well as a brokerage fee. Individual customers should expect to pay HST as well as a brokerage fea.
Additional information on brokering:
FedEx can act as one time clearance broker. Alternatively, customers can elect to use their own broker. Brokers can charge on a sliding scale fee, where low value shipments are less expensive to clear than high value shipments. It is usually recommended that the customer use their preferred customs broker when available, particularly in the case of LTL freight shipments, so as to limit the potential for any delays in transit.
Under the USMCA trade agreement, there should be no duties (normally 6.5%) charged on materials manufactured in the USA or Canada. A commercial invoice, SDS, and other international shipping documents are supplied on orders shipping from the USA to Canada, as required.
